Designer clothes, fancy gadgets, and deluxe treatments were once reserved for the outlandishly wealthy. However, websites have begun to offer such luxuries at extremely discounted prices, making them more accessible to cost-conscious consumers. Two of the most popular services to do so are GILT and R...

Many websites exist that simply require you to click a button in order to give charity -- at no cost to you. As I have previously mentioned, I really enjoy apps that help people to be better organized. I myself am pretty challenged when it comes to organization and use any help that I get. 2Do Lite and Errands are two apps that are meant to help people like me keep better track of tasks, projects and of all things that need to get done. However, both apps that happen to also be free, attempt to achieve this in different ways. 2Do Lite and Errands are effective but it really is a matter of taste in terms of which one is better than the other. I prefer Errands and I will outline why that is as I compare both apps.

Nowadays, a lot of people don’t cook their own meals at home. Some find themselves too busy, others too poor to afford good food (I’m talking to my fellow college students here), and still others who are afraid of burning their house down. It all boils down to the belief that cooking is a boring, difficult, esoteric, and overall displeasing experience. But with the Dinner Spinner Pro app from Allrecipes.com, cooking makes its way back into the list of desirable forms of dining. This app is a fun take on choosing recipes to prepare and makes cooking easy by providing all the steps for making a great meal.

Packing is an activity that can be a lot more painful than necessary and can last a really long time. I have the tendency to pack what I think I need once and then overdo it, run out of space in my bag and get so confused at what I have packed and what I haven’t, that I empty the bag and start all over again. Therefore, I hate packing, I think its a waste of time and really kind of a pain. Here is an app that will organize everything before it hits the suitcase and as a result, will allow you to pack more efficiently and without taking up so much time.

Most people think that going green involves significant lifestyle alterations. Well, Eco Chef proves them wrong, and that an eco-friendly approach can start right in your kitchen. The app is brought to you by celebrity chef Bryan Au, and displays many step-by-step videos of how to prepare 10-minute (or less!) recipes that are just as good for your waste line as they are for the environment. The recipes are based on comfort classics and junk-food favorites, but utilize organic foods and cooking techniques that are eco-friendly. Over 100 recipes, drawing inspiration from cuisines all over the world, are showcased through the app, and many of them were created specifically for Eco Chef by Bryan Au! What’s more is the app allows you to interact with the chef himself through the “Bryan Live” feature, so you essentially have a chef at your fingertips! Even if you’re not completely sold on living a green lifestyle, this app is still worthwhile to have because of its nutritious and delicious suggestions and recipes. The fact that it can help the environment is just one heck of a bonus! |

While the human brain is capable of many things, remembering names is not always one of them. Well…there’s an app to help that. Whoodl allows you to input names along with identifying keywords so that you can easily recall who people are the next time you see them. Even if they are not particularly noteworthy or contact-worthy people, this still helps avoid the embarassing “Hey…you” moments. All you have to do is search your names list before you anticipate running into a certain group of people or enter the identifying keywords into the search when you run into someone whose name is beyond your memory, and you will forever be known as the person who is good with names. |

WasteNot takes the concept of planting seeds of knowledge to the eco-friendly sphere. In essence, this app allows you to find and share ideas for how to reduce your waste and negative impacts on the environment and to also see how big of a difference these ideas will make. These ideas are referred to as “seeds” in the app, so you can either Browse Seeds to see what recommendations already exist, Plant Seeds to impart your own green knowledge, and Water Seeds to show that you are actively taking part in an eco-friendly activity.
