While games can certainly have the effect of creating reclusive individuals, OpenFeint has enabled a more social experience in many iphone and ipod games. This social gaming service has connected users to game-wide leaderboards, discussion boards, and competition platforms, and just announced today some additional features to come. The trend of physics-inspired iPhone games continues with Bumps. This cute game requires the player to strategically place a tiny, round bump character so that when it is put into play, it will hit all of the keys, releasing them to unlock the chests holding back the other captured bumps. Not only is this game family-friendly with its adorable graphics and simple conceptual premise, but it also functions without flaw. Furthermore, it can endlessly entertain people of all ages for hours, as each level is more challenging than the next. The only sad thing is that there are a finite number of levels to bump through, but it is certainly bound to be a while before you have to bid farewell to Bumps. With the colorful game of Bumps, your brain and your heart are both sure to smile. |

Juggle! is a game with a retro feel and a modern flair. You use your paddle to keep the falling squares in play, racking up points as you go along, with the ultimate objective of garnering as many points as possible. You start by only keeping one square in motion, but as the game progresses, more squares fall, and each square in play slowly shrinks, presenting even more of a challenge — but the higher the difficulty, the more points you get! The second the last square falls past your paddle and into the unknown abyss, your game is over. Even though there are options for timed games (3 and 5 minutes) in addition to an unlimited time play, it is very easy to drop the juggle and lose the game before the time is up. And though the game is great in and of itself, the graphics are very reminiscent of video games from the 1980s (but, of course, with operations clearly from 2010, including Feint capabilities), creating a welcomed sense of nostalgia as you struggle to juggle. If for nothing else than a trip down memory lane, Juggle! is a game you should really get your hands on. |

Eat it, grow bigger, avoid the bigger fish. These kinds of games have been around awhile already. But Osmos is a refreshing and challenging adaptation to the genre. If you have a lot of free time (or if you have plenty of things you’re trying to avoid) this app for the iPhone and iPad will eat it all up.
